JP Legarte

JP Legarte (he/she/they) is a genderfluid Filipinx American pursuing the poetry track in Emerson College’s MFA in Creative Writing program. He serves as the Community and Grant Development Assistant and a Senior Editor for Brink Literacy Project and F(r)iction and as the Director of Creative Operations and Secretary for Collections of Transience. Their work appears or is forthcoming in Breakwater Review, Rawhead Journal, the 2025 Boston Mayor’s Poetry Program, and other publication avenues. She has been supported by scholarships, fellowships, and/or acceptances from the Seventh Wave Magazine – The Workshop, Juniper Summer Writing Institute, Lighthouse Writers Workshop Lit Fest, Macondo Writers Workshop, Martha’s Vineyard Summer Writers’ Conference, Kenyon Review Writers Workshop, Bread Loaf Environmental Writers’ Conference, and more. More recently, she received the 2026 Longleaf Underrepresented Groups Scholarship to attend the 2026 Longleaf Writers Conference. Some of her favorite poets include Keith S.
